PM MANELE ACKNOWLEDGED PIF’S OBSERVER ROLE IN THE RECENT JOINT ELECTIONS

Prime Minister Jeremiah Manele MP has acknowledged Pacific Islands Forum Secretariat (PIF) for being part of the international observers group during the recent joint Provincial and National General Elections.

PM Manele made the acknowledgement during the courtesy call made by the newly appointed Secretary General of the PIF, Baron Waqa and his team of officials.

Amongst other issues, Prime Minister Manele strongly advocated for member states to take up initiatives to PIF for action. Member states must be given the space to set agendas.

The Prime Minister also highlighted Solomon Islands’ foreign policy of ‘friends to all and enemy to none’, further adding that Solomon Islands interest is development and that has been the focus of the government.

PM Manele underscored that Solomon Islands need all its bilateral and multilateral partners as far as the country’s broad development needs are concerned.

The Prime Minister urged the PIF to continue its good work to date and managing regional agenda within the framework of the 2050 strategy.

Meanwhile, the Secretary General of PIF, Baron Waqa, expressed the PIF secretariat’s full confidence in the leadership of Prime Minister Jeremiah Manele and pledged strong support of PIF behind PM Manele’s leadership.

The GS of PIF secretariat further reminded PM Manele of the Troika leadership meeting later this year where PM Manele will join his two other counterparts in Nuku’alofa in Tonga to discuss PIF’s on- going agendas.

Baron Waqa urged PM Manele to utilize the services of the Forum Secretariat and pledged to continue to engage with member states going forward.

Baron Waqa is the new General Secretary of the PIF’s secretariat and assumed office just recently. Previously, Mr. Waqa was the president of the Republic of Nauru.
