Police are waiting for medical reports to determine the cause of two “suspicious” deaths that occurred last month.

One case involves a man who was found dead in Vonavona Lagoon, Western Province on December 22 after going out to dive for beche-de-mer.

The other case involves a 20-year-old woman who was found dead in a room at the Travellers Motel in Auki, Malaita Province on December 23.

Supervising Police Commissioner Juanita Matanga said there is no specific time frame for when the pathologist’s medical reports on the deaths will be finalised.

And until a definitive cause of death is determined, it is routine police procedure to consider a death “suspicious”.

Ms Matanga said police have not yet identified any suspects or made any arrests in either of the cases.

“At this stage, we are yet to get any details, but as you know, we cannot just make arrests,” she said. “We have to get our facts right before we can make arrests. ”
