A pothole-ridden road in Honiara

The director of the Royal Solomon Islands Police Force Traffic Department, Inspector Brian Surimalefo, has warned people against demanding money in exchange for filling potholes on feeder roads in and around Honiara.

Mr Surimalefo said it is illegal for individuals to fill potholes on public roads.

“Actions of youth or other people that are refilling potholes is not right,” he said. “What they are doing is illegal because we have authorities that are responsible for refilling potholes on our roads.”

Mr Surimalefo said although it is good that these individuals want to fix the problem, they are not taking the proper approach.

“If we find anyone doing this, police can charge them with obstructing traffic,” he said.
