Voters in the North Malaita Constituency are questioning the legitimacy surrounding early political campaigns held in the region.

SIBC’s North Malaita stringer John Andrew Kiri reports this came after the voters learned that the current Parliament is yet to be dissolved and official campaign dates yet to be announced.

“How and why do these few intending candidates came around to do what they called awareness when the current parliament is yet to dissolve and when the campaign date is yet to be officially announced?

Meanwhile, Community Leader Iro Leliana calls on the Chief Electoral Commission Office to clarify their doubts over the matter.

“Representing many people here Mr Iro a concerned leader is questioning the Electoral Commissioner to explain in clarifying a few questions from people here. One, is it proper for any intending candidate going ahead with awareness campaigns now, if yes why and if not why?”

SIBC News hopes to run possible clarifications from the Solomon Islands Electoral Commission in a separate story.
