REFERRAL SAFENET ESTABLISHED FOR GENDER-BASED VIOLENCE VICTIMS
The Democratic Coalition for Change (DCC) Government has established Referral SafeNet, a formal referral system to help victims of gender-based violence and violence against women in the country.
The Ministry of Women, Youth, Children and Family Affairs today said the system is important to provide coordinated, frontline services and support for victims of gender-based violence.
The Safenet comprises of Family Support Centre, the Royal Solomon Islands Police Force, the Ministry of Health and Medical Services, the Christian Care Centre, and the Public Solicitor’s Office.
Meanwhile, the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Women, Youth, Children and Family Affairs, Ethel Sigimanu, and the Director of National Community Policing of the Royal Solomon Islands Police Force Solomon Sisimia says men should always know their responsibility to protect vulnerable people from evil perpetrators in our communities.
They argue, the recent killing of the former beauty queen contestant and 17 year old Lynnette Hilda in East Guadalcanal earlier this year show women and girls are continually being beaten, abused and killed by men of this country.
