RENBEL SOLOMON GAMES 2016 UNVEILED IN BELLONA
Acting Prime Minister Manasseh Maelanga has officially unveiled the Solomon Games 2016 in Rennell and Bellona Province.
The Games was unveiled during celebrations to mark the Province’s 21st Second Appointed Day celebrations on Tuesday in Bellona.
Rennell and Bellona Province won the bid to host the games in 2016 during the 2013 Solomon Games in Tulagi, Central Islands Province last year.
A government statement said Mr Maelanga said the Government fully supports the Solomon Games in Rennell Bellona, and it will be successful.
Meanwhile, the Chair of the Games Local Organising Committee, Joyce Konofilia – who led a delegation from the Ministry of Home Affairs to organise the unveiling ceremony – has said, she is confident that hosting the games in Rennell and Bellona will be successful.
She adds, the people of Rennell and Bellona are passionate about sports and always represent the country in major regional and international sporting events.
Ms Konofilia said hosting the games in Rennell and Bellona will help the Province own better sporting facilities that will improve the sporting ability of the people of Rennell and Bellona.
The Games unveiling signifies the beginning of preparations for the 2016 games.
