The Royal Solomon Islands Police Force (RSIPF) is conducting a high visibility operation leading up to country’s independence celebration this week.

Police Commissioner Frank Prendergast confirms the operation.

Mr Prendergast says, the operation will target anti-social behaviours to ensure a safe and peaceful celebration.

Other major operations include traffic and breathalyser operations.

“To ensure that everyone can enjoy themselves we’ve been running our high visibility operations to deal with anti-social behaviour or security issues. We are also running traffic operations including breathalyser operations to ensure that people can move about on the roads safely and as we normally do monitoring the situation very carefully so if there’re any issues we’ll be able to respond very quickly.”

The Police Commissioner adds, reports received from various Honiara communities describe the security situation as “very good”.
