Two Royal Solomon Islands Police Force officers returned yesterday from their service with the United Nations peacekeeping mission in Darfur, Sudan.

Charlton Metopa and Robert Satini were part of the peacekeeping mission for the past year. They were among the five RSIPF officers that were the first to be deployed by the local police to any UN peacekeeping mission around the world.

“It was not an easy task but we were able to achieve what we were sent to do,” said team leader Mr Metopa. “The task needed commitment and dedication on our part to carry out the duties and responsibilities.”

Police Commissioner Matthew Varley said the force is proud of the team’s performance.

Eight other RSIPF officers are awaiting deployment to the same UN Peacekeeping mission in Darfur.
