Schools early closure effect as of today

The Ministry of Education and Human Resources Development has today acted on the Prime Minister’s nationwide call for the closure of all schools in Honiara and Guadalcanal Province as an additional measure to combat the COVID-19.

Permanent Secretary for the Ministry Dr. Franco Roddie in a press conference today affects the closure of all schools in Honiara and Guadalcanal Provinces in accordance with Education Act 1978.

“Based on the measures announced by the Prime Minister, to combat the coronavirus, the Ministry of education strongly given the closure of all schools in Honiara and Guadalcanal.

Meanwhile, the Permanent Secretary urges our overseas students, especially those in Fiji to stay calm.

He assures, his Ministry is in conduct with our responsible authorities in Fiji, Philipines and Papua New Guinea regarding necessary actions to take to ensure the students are safe.

“I advise parents and students that we are doing our best in care, and not to traumatized the students,” Dr. Roddie added.
