SIEC PREPARES FOR TANDAI WARD BY-ELECTION ON WEDNESDAY
Solomon Islands Electoral Commission (SIEC) is well prepared for the Guadalcanal Tandai Ward By-Election on Wednesday 13th 2024.
This was confirmed by Commissioner and Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) Jasper Highwood Anisi.
Anisi said the preparation for the Tandai Ward By-Election was well on track with the training of polling officials completed yesterday.
“I can confirm the polling officials for the Tandai By-election are ready to carry out their duties and support SIEC during the By-election,”
Twelve polling stations were identified, and sixty (60) polling officials were trained to work during the By-election on Wednesday.
He further stated that observers from various institutions in the country would observe the By-election.
“Election observation is a valuable tool for improving the quality of elections. Observers help build public confidence in the honesty of our electoral processes,” he added.
Mr. Anisi called on all the eligible voters of Tandai Ward to come out during the polling day, exercise their right to vote and participate in our democratic process by electing their Members of the Provincial Assembly.
Mr. Anisi also confirmed that five candidates, four males and one female, have been nominated.
The contesting candidates are Mr. Universe Panda, Mr. Mato Mui, Mr. Desmond Iro, Mr. Henry Maenu, and Ms Melinda Kii.
The polling stations will open at 7 am and close at 4 pm.
Mr. Anisi stated that all election-day procedures will be strictly applied to the general public and the eligible voters on the polling day tomorrow.
The seat remains vacant following the passing of its provincial representative earlier this year.
