SOLOMON ISLANDS NURSES ASSOCIATION SUSPENDED

The Solomon Islands Nurses Association has this evening suspended as an association.

Prime Minister Manasseh Sogavare made the decision in accordance with the Emergency Powers Act (CAP 11) following a sit-in protest by the nurses in Honiara, today.

In a legal notice No.172 to the Association, dated Friday 30th October says, “EMERGENCY POWERS (COVID-19) (No.3) SUSPENSION OF TRADE UNIONS (SOLOMON ISLANDS NURSES ASSOCIATION).“

Prime Minister Sogavare exercising the emergency powers vested in him has suspended the Association saying it is for the public interest.

“It is necessary to do so for the public interest and for the COVID-19 purpose of maintaining the public health and safety.”

The nurses took a sit-in protest today following continuous delay of their COBID-19 allowances.

General Secretary of SINA told SIBC News , nurses will continue with sit-in protest if the government do not pay their dues.
