Taro braces for election surge ahead of polling day

With a high visibility of Police presence in Taro, Choiseul Province, the township saw a surge in activity ahead of the 17th April polls.
Mr. Osborn Leokana, a teacher based in Taro, told SIBC News that all services are operating smoothly despite the influx of people returning home from Honiara and other provinces.
“We are experiencing an increased demand for services such as banking, health, market access, and stores, but everything is functioning well.”
“We have encountered no major issues at the moment. All services are operating normally as expected,” Mr. Leokana stated.
Contracted rubbish collectors today did a thorough rubbish collection as part of the weekly clean up campaign.
Taro Island is situated in the Northwest Choiseul Constituency, which, according to the latest Electoral Commission (SIEC) data, have at least around 8,100 registered voters.
Six candidates are contesting the Northwest Choiseul Constituency seat in the 12th parliament.
