Transport service owners in North Malaita have expressed concern over current road blocks in the area, saying they are causing unnecessary expenses and is an inconvenience.

SIBC’s North Malaita Stringer John Kiri says youths put up road blocks and demanding money from vehicles owners to pass, after fixing parts of the roads on their own.

“In order to pass these places you must pay beginning from one hundred dollars, hundred and fifty, two hundred dollars , two-fifty, three hundred dollars to five hundred dollars. The lowest you can pay is fifty dollars. And this situation is really causing a lot of inconveniences to basic services like health, that is badly affected.”

The SIBC Stringer adds transport owners are calling for assistance from the Government through the Ministry of Infrastructure.
