Thousands of Honiara residents continue to work and do their daily business as work on the main Mataniko Bridge continues.

Freelancer George Atkin reports, apart from congested traffic, people have also been walking home after work after discovering they arrive at their destinations faster than commuting on public buses.

Many walkers spoken to said walking to work and back home is very healthy and people should be encouraged to continue to do so even after the Honiara roads have been repaired.

Meanwhile, although police continue to control traffic movement on the bridge, drivers were allowed to start using both lanes since yesterday.

Police officers are encouraging people to also use the overhead crossing at Number 9.

Pedestrians spoken to say they refused to use the overhead crossing because human excrete was everywhere.
