West Kwaio constituency loses MP

The National Parliament of Solomon Islands has lost a humble and dedicated MP.

Late Hon. Peter Tom who represents West Kwaio constituency died last night at the National referral hospital- battling a long illness prior to his death.

The National Parliament Media said, Parliament business for today was interrupted.

It said, Members of Parliament will therefore pay their last respect in the Parliament Chamber to the late West Kwaio MP.

Meanwhile, News feed on Facebook has seen the influx of condolences and sympathy messages for the late MP’s family, relatives and constituents.

The Democratic Alliance Party, DAP mourns the death of this great leader; a man of humility and principle.

The late West Kwaio MP once held a ministerial post as minister for women, youth, children and family affairs.

The party sent its condolences to the people of West Kwaio, relatives and immediate families.

Meanwhile, West Makira MP Hon. Derrick Manuari described the late MP as a humble, faithful, loyal and dedicated leader- soft spoken and wise.

The Savo Russells MP Hon. Dickson Mua described the late Peter Tom as a special friend who taught him patience.

Before joining Parliament, late Hon. Tom had served his church for many years as a pastor. He was first elected to the National Parliament for West Kwaio Constituency on 5 April 2006. He got re-elected on 4th August 2010 and again on 19 November 2014 as Member of Parliament for West Kwaio.

He diligently served the 8th, 9th and 10th Parliament representing West Kwaio until his passing on. He once held a ministerial post as minister for women, youth, children and family affairs from 22nd November 2011 to 8th September 2014.

Late Hon. Peter Tom died at the age of 54 years.
