Helena Goldie Hospital in Western Province has operated without a medical doctor since November last year.

Helena Goldie Hospital Secretary Soraya Pina confirms this to SIBC News today.

“Since November, our two doctors from the UK Methodist have left as their contracts ended and since then until today we are still without any doctor.”

Ms. Pina says the issue has forced hospital authorities to refer very sick patients to Gizo Hospital and National Referral Hospital in Honiara for urgent treatments.

“So we have to do referrals to Gizo Hospital for cases beyond our capacity and very serious cases to Honiara.”

SIBC News understands Helena Goldie Hospital executive will discuss the issue during its meeting tomorrow.
