The Ministry of Home Affairs has clarified, the 2014 Whit Monday will be observed on the 9th of June.

Director of Civil Affairs Division, Robert Farodo made the clarification amidst confusion regarding the public holiday.

Mr Farodo says according to the gazetted public holidays, Whit Monday does not fall on May.

“Under the Public Notice number 1 of 2014, National and Provincial Public holidays have already been gazetted in accordance with the schedule to the Public Holidays Act, so Whit Monday in fact falls on Monday the 9th of June and not May.”

Whit Monday or Pentecost Monday, is a Christian holiday. It is the day after Pentecost which commemorates the descent of the Holy Ghost upon the disciples of Jesus Christ, according to the New Testament Bible.

Solomon Islands being a Christian nation observe the day as a national public holiday.
