St. BARBARA SHOULD DO THE DEWATERING: CONCERNED MAN

A concerned man, Pedro Wale Urifo of Roroni Village of Central Guadalcanal has called on the responsible authorities including the national government to allow St Barbara Mining Limited to carry out the planned dewatering exercise of the Tailings Storage Facility (TSF).

This follows the recent government decision authorising the Gold Ridge Mining Company (GRML) to perform dewatering to the Tailings Storage Facility.

Speaking to SIBC News today, Mr Urifo said the national government should recall St Barbara Mining Limited to do the dewatering exercise to the facility.

Mr Urifo explains this is crucial to ensure the exercise meets World Health Organisation dewatering safety standards.

“While appreciating the attempts made by this organisation set up by landowners they would try their best, but the question is how would we know how qualified they are who are trying to conduct this dewatering? It’s very important to keep to World Health Organisation standards”.
