Afio Community members in Small Malaita, Malaita Province have questioned magistrate court’s decision to hear various court cases at Afio Market House last week.

Reporting this to SIBC News today, Richard Hou of Small Malaita says members of the community are concerned about the decision as it does not give prominence to the hearing and make a mockery of the court system.

“This is a concern from the Afio public, especially the way in which court cases were last week conducted at the Afio market house. The Afio public sees this as not respectable and not formal for a magistrate to hear court cases in an open space that seem inappropriate.”

Mr Hou says Afio Community members now call on responsible authorities to quickly address the issue so that future court cases could be heard at a proper and respected venue.

“The Afio called on responsible authorities, especially the Malaita Provincial Government to do something about this so that a proper building can be built so that court cases in the Southern region can be heard in a proper facility.’

SIBC News understands, court cases for Small Malaita are rarely heard at Afio Station.
