Member of Parliament for North East Choiseul, Manasseh Sogavare says the April flash flooding is a result of poor planing and ineffective land use in Honiara.

Mr Sogavare made the comment during his debate on the Land and Titles Amendment Bill 2014, which was passed Wednesday last week.

He says the April flash flooding is a wake up call for proper planing and usage of Honiara lands.

“The flow of water during the recent flood should be another wake up call. A lot of wake up calls have happened Mr Speaker, but the recent one  Sir is a major wake up call for us to re-look at the planning and effective use of land especially in Honiara.”

The East Choiseul MP adds, the passage of the Lands and Titles Amendment Act will address allocation and land usage in Honiara.

The new Act comes under the jurisdiction of the Ministry of Lands.
