Members of the Royal Solomon Islands Police Force at Auki, Malaita Province have been deployed ahead of tomorrow’s polling day to provide security in constituencies across the Province.

Provincial Police Commander for Malaita, Alfred Uiga told SIBC News today officers have been deployed to constituencies since last weekend.

He says police officers were being deployed based on threat assessments done by the police.

“For example where there is a high threat, I will consider that and deploy a good number of officers to man each polling station. Others with low threat assessments would only expect a few police officers while some of the polling stations will be manned by Sector Commanders on patrol basis.”

The Provincial Police Commander adds police officers for South Malaita were deployed on last Saturday, and deployments for North Malaita including Baegu-Asifola took place yesterday.

“Deployment has been done and as I’ve mentioned, officers for South Malaita have left on Saturday while those for North Malaita including Baegu-Asifola left on Monday morning, so they were already deployed and currently according to communications have confirmed their arrivals at their respective constituencies and are ready for tomorrow.”
