Avui sworn in as new Home Affairs Minister

Prime Minister Rick Houenipwela congratulating the new Minister Ishmale Avui

Member of Parliament for East Central Guadalcanal Constituency Honorable Ishmael Avui has been sworn in as the new Minister for Home Affairs this afternoon.

Mr Avui replaces former Minister and Member of Parliament for Temotu Nende Constituency Hon Commins Mewa.

He was sworn in at the Government House by the Governor General and witnessed by the Prime Minister, his Cabinet members, Senior Backbenchers and senior government officials.

The new minister acknowledged the challenging tasked ahead.

One of his immediate priorities is to fast track work on preparations towards the National General Elections next year.

Mr Avui was the former Minister of National Unity, Reconciliation and Peace (MNURP) before his appointment today.

Minister Avui will remain as supervising minister for MNURP until the Government appoints a replacement soon.
