Boso Acquitted from false rumor charges
The Magistrate’s Court yesterday acquitted a man charged for spreading
false rumours in social media in April this year.
Paterson Boso was charged under section 63(a) of the Penal Code for
spreading a false rumour about a confirmed case of COVID-19 in the country.
He was arrested in April after his post imputed fear and panic among the
general public.
However, the Court freed him after there is insufficient evidence to prove that the false rumour has caused social damage.
Soon after his victory, Mr Boso posted to his Facebook page describing himself as a humble and law abiding citizen of Solomon Islands.
He says the legal fight took almost 6 months of complying with the judiciary and court processes.
