The Arao House of Chiefs in West Baelelea, North Malaita has taken an initiative to form and enforce by-laws in their community- an initiative to cut down on illegal and anti-social behaviours in their area.

This move gains support from people in the community as they are experiencing minimal ruddy behaviours in the community.

Arao House of Chiefs Secretary, chief Dee Dalo told SIBC’s stringer in the region John Andrew Kiri they have taken the initiative amidst increasing illegal activities in the community.

“Chief Dalo said because of the increasing level of illegally produced drugs, where youths are mostly involved and that police in the area are logistically handicapped, hence creating the initiative.”

Initiated in January last year, Mr Kiri adds, people will pay heavy fines for crimes committed against the by-laws and this has positive impacts on the Arao community.
