The Anglican Church of Melanesia will elect a new Archbishop next month.

Church General Secretary, Dr Abraham Haoriasi confirmed 12 February as the election date.

He says the provincial electoral board of the Church will conduct the election.

“The election, like I said, will be done by the provincial electoral board of the church. This means that the members will be elected by the nine diocese of the church as well as members of the electoral board of the diocese of Central Melanesia because the Archbishop will also be bishop for the Diocese of Central Melanesia where Honiara is, so altogether there are about 34 members and they will meet to elect the next Archbishop.”

The previous Archbishop, Rt. Rev. David Vunagi retired in September last year after reaching the retirement age of 65.
