A community leader in Russell islands has said it is discriminatory when capable Russell island leaders are being left in the margins of the Central Islands Provincial government.

Eddie Grant Suku told SIBC News only Ngella and Savo have been given the opportunity in the provincial government than Russell islands, adding this is discriminatory.

“For the past years only Ngella and Savo are holding the posts while Russell island has always been marginalized of leadership positions in the Provincial Government, especially in the Central Province. So with a collective perspective from people, the concern revolves around why Russell islands is left out of the provincial leadership positions. To me this is discriminatory as there are capable people in Russell islands to take up leadership positions at the Provincial level.”

SIBC News understands former Provincial Speaker John Bosamata was re-elected last week as Speaker of the Central Islands Provincial Assembly.
