Victims of the 1989-2000 Bougainvillea Crisis in North West Choiseul have reiterated their call for the Democratic Coalition for Change Government (DCCG) to compensate them.

This is for the spill over atrocities committed against them and their properties during the height of the crisis.

The call was raised by the member of Parliament for North West Choiseul Constituency Hon. Bradley Connelly Sadakabatu while contributing to the motion of Sine Die last Friday.

“The 1989-2000 Bougainville spill-over effects Mr. Speaker Sir my people especially those living on East Choiseul coastal borders are still asking for when will the Solomon Islands government compensate them of the atrocities committed against them and their properties during the Bougainville spill-over crisis.”

Mr. Sadakabatu says since an official report of the issue was presented to the government in the last parliament the government’s position on the report is yet to be finalized.

He calls on the new Government to work closely with him to fix the issue.

“The official report of this claim was presented to Cabinet through a Cabinet paper in the last house. A government’s position is yet to be received from the Ministry of National Unity, Peace, and Reconciliation. With the appointment of the new Minister in the said Ministry I am looking forward to working closely with you to provide and answer to my people of this long-standing issue.”
