WEATHER EXPERTS IN HONIARA ON METEOROLOGY MEETING

Weather experts around the region are meeting in Honiara, to discuss further improvement of forecasting and providing early warnings on severe weather such as heavy rainfall, strong winds and high waves associated with tropical cyclones and other weather events.

A statement from the Ministry for Environment, Climate Change, Disaster Management and Meteorology says, the meeting was organized under the Severe Weather Forecast and Disaster Risk Reduction Demonstration Project (SWFDDP).

Speaking during the meeting, Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Environment, Climate Change, Disaster Management and Meteorology Dr Melchior Mataki encouraged the continued development and implementation of the SWFDDP in the Pacific Islands and to move it from demonstration to operation stage.

Mr Mataki also used the opportunity to call on development partners to continue providing resources for the SWFDDP and routine operations of forecasting and providing warnings and alerts of severe and high impact weather events associated with tropical cyclones and other weather systems.
