E.U INTENDS TO CONTINUE WORKING WITH GOV’T: EU AMBASSADOR

The European Union intends to continue working with the Solomon Islands Government, says the  European Union Ambassador to the delegation of European Union in Solomon Islands and Vanuatu, His Excellency Leonidas Tezapsidis.

The EU Ambassador told SIBC News, EU wants to ensure its current relationship with Solomon Islands flourish particularly in the area of budget support.

“Our intention is to continue in the future with different ways of funding, working with the government as much as we can, trying to use the procedures of the government. The way we can do that is budget support engage also the government in a policy dialogue. What is our interest as donor partners of Solomon Islands is to make sure that the government uses transparent and open procedures to improve its procedures.”

He adds, in the future EU intends to re-enforce the capacity of Civil Societies.

“In the future we also intend to cover in that same area of work also the urban areas, but it is not solely through the government and line ministries that we want to work. A major part of our efforts are to reinforce the capacity of civil society, of non-governmental organisations.”
