Government spending to assist flood victims in Honiara has now reached 1-point-5 million dollars.

Minister responsible for the National Disaster Management Office, Bradley Tovosia announced the spending in Parliament today.

Minister Tovosia made the comment in response to criticisms from his colleague MPs in Parliament, who questioned what the government has been doing for victims of last week’s flash flood.

“Honiara alone we have already spent 1.5 million dollars as of today. This is what the government has done, the Ministry of Environment, 1.5 million dollars and going down to the evacuation centres you’ll see people are eating rice. This is what the government has done and if we deny that here in Parliament then it is a sad thing.”

Minister Tovosia also called on the MPs to visit victims of the flash floods themselves rather than argue the matter in Parliament.
