The Guadalcanal Plains Palm Oil Limited plans to expand its current land lease Eastwards within the Guadalcanal Plains.

SIBC’s North Guadalcanal stringer Dudley Gani reports, the company currently holds leases to six thousand hectares, and wants to expand thirteen thousand hectares towards Tasimboko and Ruavatu.

Gani reports, the plans were contained in a company statement issued recently by GPPOL General Manager, Roger Benzie.

“Reason why New Britain Palm Oil Limited is interested to restart and rehabilitate the former Solomon Islands Plantation Limited is because of the potential for further development in the Guadalcanal Plains. The statement adds at this stage, a lot of customary landowning groups in the East where the is a current operation, have already asked the company to develop their areas.”

Mr Gani also reports, the GPPOL company has assured land owners they will follow proper processes to acquire the land needed for the expansion.
