The Honiara City Council joins the Ministry of Health and the Midwifery Society to celebrate “International Day of the Midwife” yesterday.

Acting City Clerk, Fred Warereau, said it’s important HCC celebrates the very important role midwives play in the lives of mothers, newborns, and their families.

The Honiara City Council said midwives working at our hospitals and clinics provide very important service for new mothers.

They work hard every day to ensure women and newborns receive the best quality care they deserve.

This year’s “International Day of the Midwife” day begun yesterday with a church service at 7am at the United Church, followed by a parade through the city to the Art Gallery.

Education stalls are at the Art Gallery for the public to learn more about midwifery and the role they play in the lives of so many.
