The Ministry of National Unity, Reconciliation and Peace through its Provincial office in Malaita has successfully held a Leadership and Land Conference for Malaita Outer Islands People.

A government statement said the 3-day Conference focused on important matters regarding traditional land owning rights, and inheritance and finding possible solutions to the current leadership and land issues faced by communities.

Speaking during the conference, Ministry Permanent Secretary Lennis Rukale said it will help strengthen people’s traditional cultures and values despite the external influences faced by their communities.

Mr Rukale said the conference will build the capacity and provide essential time for leaders and elders to have a dialogue, and find credible ways to solve culture shift so that communities live in a peaceful environment.

He said the caretaker government is determined to facilitate the healing process to bury the past, and progress towards a new social order.

The Conference was held in Auki last week.
