Member of Parliament for Aoke Langa Langa says his committee could still propose a constitutional amendment on the independence of the Parliamentary Entitlements Commission, even if the government refuses to bring it to parliament.

Matthew Wale, who is also the Chair of the Constitution Review Committee said it could be difficult to be passed in parliament due to government numbers but it would allow debate around these issues – vital for the leadership of the country.

“The Constitution Review Committee could still propose a Constitutional amendment. Of course it would be much harder to be passed in parliament because the numbers are controlled by the government but it would allow debate to happen around these issues because they are important and affect parliament as well as affect the people’s trust in the leadership of this country.”
