The Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Health and Medical Services Dr. Tenneth Dalipanda has said, the negative impacts of tobacco use on Solomon Islands population is quite significant.

Dr. Dalipanda made the remark yesterday during the commemoration of the World No Tobacco Day in Honiara.

He said 80 percent of the country’s youths are exposed to Tobacco smoking.

“Thirty-one percent of our population smoke. 40 percent of our youth smoke, 80 percent of our youth are exposed to tobacco smoke. Our populations are filled with people suffering from tobacco-related diseases. Our children, family, and friends are dying of tobacco-related diseases. I say enough is enough.”
