NORTH MALAITA COUNCIL OF CHIEFS TO LEAD PEACE: KIRI
The North Malaita Council of Chiefs has announced its intention to lead peace and reconciliation in Malaita.
The Chief’s Council says it intends to lead the initiative with its current peace and reconciliation meeting.
SIBC’s Stringer in North Malaita, John Andrew Kiri reports this plan comes after a one-week Malaita Chiefs’ Conference, held in Auki last month by the Ministry of National Unity, Peace and Reconciliation.
Kiri reports the meeting was to inform the different House of Chiefs in North Malaita on relevant issues related to peace and reconciliation initiatives for Malaita Province.
He also reported the meeting was to prepare leaders for next month’s Regional Chief Congress Meeting.
“The first reason is to provide feedback to the Malaita Chiefs Conference, where a total of 20 issues relevant to the theme “Reconciliation, Restoration and Return” has been discussed and resolved as well as formulating a way forward for Malaita. Secondly is preparation for the Regional Congress meeting proposed to be held later, maybe in one or two months time this year.”
SIBC News understands the North Malaita Council of Chiefs meeting begins today and ends on Thursday, this week.
