The Parliamentary Opposition Group is shocked by media revelations that the Prime Minister’s 16-member delegation trip to Taiwan has cost taxpayers SBD$1.6 million.

In a statement today, the Opposition Group calls on the Office of the Prime Minister and Cabinet (OPMC) to justify the total cost of the trip as to why such a huge amount of money is needed for the trip.

It said the amount is not only outrageous but also unbelievable and unjustifiable.

The Group said it understands that the Republic of China (ROC) Taiwan have met the total costing for eight people including the Prime Minister and his wife.

As such, the statement said the Government only met the bill for the other eight people which consisted of accompanying officials.

The Opposition questioned why trip needs an imprest of about a million dollars if ROC has met expenses for the Prime Minister and his wife with other Ministers and MPs.

It said this is unjustifiable, adding that taxpayers of this country need to know why they are footing that much for the trip.
