A tropical low-pressure system is causing the wet weather condition currently experienced in the country.

The Solomon Islands Meteorological Services confirms to SIBC News in an interview today.

Director of Meteorology, David Hiriasia says a tropical low-pressure system is currently located over North of Malaita Province, since last night.

“The situation is that there’s a tropical low pressure system as of last night is situated North of Malaita Province, which continues to influence our weather this week and also there is a big area of unstable air associated with bad air which goes right from Solomon Islands across towards Vanuatu and it is within this region that we have the tropical low which is currently around 1002 hector pascals.”

The Met Service Director adds, heavy rain is expected for most of the islands in the country and a Heavy Rain Alert is being issued.

“We think rain will continue to affect most of the islands in the country and sometimes we should experience heavy rain which will likely cause flooding and so because of that the Met Service has issued a Heavy Rain Alert at the moment.”
