Former Premier for Guadalcanal Province Anthony Veke has congratulated the Landowners and the people of Gold Ridge for the outright payment of the Gold Ridge Mine from Saint Barbara as a Landowner company.

Gold Ridge Mine has been locally owned following a historic agreement signed in Honiara early this month between the Australian miner and a local Company the Gold Ridge Community Investment Limited.

Speaking to SIBC News, Mr Veke says it is time to congratulate the people of Gold Ridge in taking a huge challenge and established the Gold Ridge Community Investment Limited.

“I think it’s time that we need to congratulate our own people of Guadalcanal and especially the Gold Ridge people. They have decided to take up a huge challenge by forming this company. It’s not easy to take the lead in establishing a company that will be looking after such a huge investment as mining, where we only one in the Solomon Islands.”

The Former Premier urged the Gold Ridge Landowners to take up the challenge to maximise the benefit of such company for the people of Guadalcanal province.

“Let’s take the challenge on our own and build what we can so that we maximize the benefits for the resource owners and the women and children of Guadalcanal.”

SIBC News has been reliably informed, certain landowning groups have distanced themselves from the Gold ridge Community Investment Limited.
