People of Reef Islands in Temotu Province are suffering from lack of clean drinking water in the midst of a long drought which is ongoing since November last year.

Mr. Ezekiel Nodua of Tuwo village in Reef Islands told SIBC News, currently the communities are relying on well water even for drinking and cooking.

Mr Nodua adds the fact that the people are now drinking from the well is indicative of the seriousness of the drought.

He adds it is unhealthy and disease outbreak may happen anytime.

SIBC News understands people of Reef Islands heavily rely on rainwater for drinking.

Nodua call on the government and its partners to step in and assist them in this drought season.
