The Joint Civil Society Groups and Concerned Citizens are calling on the Electoral Commission to immediately cancel the Uta Shipping Limited contract saying there are ‘serious conflicts of interest’ involving Isabel MP Selwyn Riumana.

The Uta Shipping Limited vessel, the Uta Princess is being used deploy voter registration equipment and officers to Isabel, and Western Provinces, despite public records showing the company directorship of Hograno, Katova, Kia, Havulei MP, Selwyn Riumana.

Interim Chairman Mr Barnabas Henson says, the government charter of MV Uta Princess should be recalled and immediately discontinued with a formal referral made to the Leadership Code Commission.

It further calls on the Public Service Commission to exercise its lawful mandate in disciplining and investigating electoral officers who were responsible for sealing the shipping contract with MP Riumana’s private company.

JCSG and CC adds, failing to stop the contract would mean the Electoral office is complicit in the commission of fraud.
