All double registrations detected by the Biometric Voter Registration system will be referred to the police.

Chief Electoral Officer, Polycarp Haununu made the statement in a recent media conference, saying the almost 6,000 double registrations will be referred to the police.

Mr Haununu says, while a few people might have mistakenly registered twice, most have done this intentionally.

“One or two might have mistakably registered twice but most of them had done it intentionally, which is wrong. For those who registered more than once, what the Commission will do is that it will report them to the police, which will then decide on whether they were done intentionally or mistakably. That is for the police to decide when we report the cases to them.”

Meanwhile, on the issue of current and intending candidates buying voter ID cards, the Chief Electoral Officer said the Commission has yet to receive any formal complaints.

SIBC News understands, all double registrations will be highlighted in yellow on the Provisional Voters List.
