WESTERN PROVINCE THANKED RAMSI FOR 13 LONG YEARS

The Western Provincial Assembly (WPA) has formally thanked the Regional Assistance Mission to Solomon Islands (RAMSI) for the 13 long years the Mission assisted the Province restore law and order after the ethnic tension.

Deputy Premier for Western Province, Wayne Maepio conveyed the appreciation to the RAMSI Special Coordinator Quinton Devlin in a meeting hosted by Western Provincial Government.

In his acknowledgement, Mr. Maepio says RAMSI’s role in the restoration of law and order after the ethnic tension is the reason for today’s peaceful society.

He says his government appreciates the help given in the last 13 years adding Western Province remains unsecured because of the situation at the common border with Papua New Guinea.

Meanwhile, RAMSI Special Coordinator Quinton Devlin also updates the assembly on the Solomon Islands Government’s staged limited rearmament of the Royal Solomon Islands Police Force.

The RAMSI Media Unit says the discussion was made following an invitation from the Western Provincial Government to brief them on the Mission’s drawdown and planned departure in June 2017.
