World Vision has begun distributing relief items to families affected by the flash flooding that took Honiara by surprise last Thursday.

World Vision is supporting the emergency response co-coordinating agency, the Honiara Town Council, to provide relief items to families staying in evacuation centres in the capital.

Distribution of family packs and other relief items including Jerry cans and hygiene kits, to 600 families, commenced yesterday.

World Vision Media Unit says some 3- Thousand people will benefit from the first distribution.

It quotes World Vision country Director, Dr. Andrew Catford as saying, packs include items such as mosquito nets, blankets, sleeping mats, buckets, cutlery, crockery and cooking sets were distributed.

World Vision aims to provide assistance to 6-Thousand people by the end of the week.

World Vision’s recovery efforts will also include water and sanitation as many water sources have been damaged.
