Preparations for the Solomon Islands 2023 Pacific Games is on schedule and will starts soon, says Chair of the 2023 Pacific Games National Hosting Authority Dr. Jimmy Rodgers.

Dr Rodgers said the country is on schedule to host the event.

He made the statement during the launch of the Solomon Islands 2023 Pacific Games Logo and Mascot competition yesterday.

“Yes we have enough time to host the games. That includes mobilising the resources we need in order to build the various facilities we have to develop as well as develop Team Solomons.

“Our aim is that when we host the Pacific Games 2023, that is the opportunity for our country to try and get as many medals as possible. We want to try and set a record on medal tally at the Games.

“So it’s not just about building the facilities, its not just about getting the money for the Games. It is also about building the young people, our talents.”

He is confident, finance for the main stadium will be signed early next month.

“The main National Stadium’s financing is just about to be secured and we are very confident we will sign that in the beginning of March. Then the construction will start hopefully with ground preparations before the end of this year.

“Our target is that Stadium to be completed by the end of 2022 or at least the beginning of 2023. So that is the time plan, at least three years for construction.”

Samoa will host this year’s Pacific Games.
