The undersecretary for Administration and Finance within the Ministry of Health and Medical Services Mr George Hoa’au has stressed the importance of prioritising proper evacuation infrastructure.

Mr Hoa’au told members of the media, it is improper to use school infrastructure as evacuation centers.

Mr Hoa’au says this is a major concern shared by many Solomon Islanders.

It is important the National Government start planing proper evacuation centers as well as train and equip evacuation camp managers.

“Now it’s the first time where Public Servants were called to be camp managers, but they don’t have trainings for that. That is an important question, not just for health, but for the nation to start think about, infrastructure. Perhaps when we build roads or donors helped us to build roads, we could also say evacuation centres must be attached to the highways, not just roads. Nationally, this remains a challenge for us on the policy level.”
