The National Referral Hospital has this week recorded more than 50 new cases of diarrhea.

Confirming this to the local media, National Referral Hospital Chief Executive Officer Dr George Manimu says statistics show an increasing trend for Honiara alone.

“Just diarrhea alone, watery diarrhea. We have 32 cases yesterday, the other day on the 8th we have 19 and on the 7th we have eight. These are numbers for HCC, Honiara City Council, 8, 19 and 32, so it seems to be climbing.”

Dr Manimu calls on the victims and the general public to use clean water and clean their surroundings to avoid contracting diseases like diarrhea and dengue.

“The advise here is that I would like to join the RWASH Director to say that people must be careful with water. Not only that but I would also like to ask us to keep our environment clean. People need to go out and clean their environment, empty any pool of water because we are expecting dengue.”

SIBC News understands while there are possibilities of disease outbreak in the country, health authorities are yet to announce any.
