Landowners of Wairaha in West Are’are have burned down and stoned machines belonging to the Burwood Logging Company operating in their area.

Eyewitnesses say a vehicle has been burned down and an excavator was also stoned by angry landowners.

Landowners also seized a chainsaw belonging to the company.

SIBC stringer Gabriel Riotarau reports, the incident is a result of disappointment from landowners regarding the company’s operation.

“According to a reliable source who wished for anonymity said this has happened as a result of the landowner’s disagreement over an operation done by the company.”

Meanwhile, the Malaita Provincial Police Commander, Alfred Uiga confirmed, six police officers were deployed to Wairaha to investigate the matter.

Mr Uiga adds, there was no arrests made so far.

The incident happened Monday last week.
