WORK ON INTRODUCING BREATHALYSERS GOING WELL: POLICE

Progress on the introduction of breathalysers by the Royal Solomon Islands Police Force (RSIPF) is on goal, says Police Commissioner Frank Prendergast.
The hand-held units are now in the country, imported by Police with the help of the World Health Organisation.
Mr Prendergast explains, breathalysers will be the most effective means to combat drink-driving in Solomon Islands.
“Drink-driving is a danger to the entire community and we know what goes on and you know, to combat it effectively we need modern techniques. I am very pleased to say that that work is progressing well, we now have the necessary equipment and I thank the World Health Organisation for their support with that. We’ve commenced our training of officers so today we are training trainers who’ll then be able to train officers in the use of the equipment. The equipment is very modern, it’s very fool proof and very simple to use.”
SIBC News understands a Police and Transport Legislation (Amendment) (Alcohol Testing) Bill 2016 is currently before the Parliamentary Bills and Legislation Committee.
