Preliminary findings of the National based survey on Rural Water Supply, Sanitation and Hygiene (RWASH) indicates, 54 percent of the rural population had access to water and 13 percent had access to adequate sanitation and hygiene.

WaterAid Program Manager Fred Saeni told SIBC News, full reports of the findings is yet to be finalised.

Mr Saeni said the findings should be an eye-opener for the government to ensure people got access to adequate water supply, proper sanitation and hygiene.

“They need to implement the plans to improve the current results we have which are: water with a slight improvement with 54 percent; sanitation is very low with only 13 percent as well as hygiene so our leaders should be planning to raise these low figures.”

Mr Saeni adds, presentations on the finding continues throughout the provinces.
